Ingredients
Scale
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 ½ tsp salt
1 tsp sugar
2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
1 cup warm water (about 110°F)
1 tbsp olive oil
Optional: cornmeal for dusting, chopped rosemary or parsley for garnish
Instructions
Activate the yeast by mixing warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
Add flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mix. Stir to form a shaggy dough, then knead until smooth.
Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour until doubled.
Shape the dough into a round loaf. Sprinkle cornmeal on parchment paper and set the dough on top. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C). Score the top of the loaf, transfer to a hot baking sheet or Dutch oven, and bake for 25–30 minutes until deep golden brown.
Notes
Use warm water (110°F) for best yeast activation.
Knead the dough until smooth for the best texture.
Let the dough rise in a warm place for optimal results.
