Bang Bang Shrimp Bites are a crispy, spicy, and sweet seafood appetizer made with buttermilk-marinated shrimp, fried to golden perfection and tossed in a creamy chili sauce. Perfect for parties or quick bites, this Asian-inspired dish delivers bold flavor and crunchy texture.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled & deveined
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp sweet chili sauce
  • 1 tbsp Sriracha (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • Green onions & sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Toss shrimp in buttermilk and refrigerate for 15 minutes.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, paprika, and salt.
  3. Remove shrimp from buttermilk and dredge each piece in the flour mixture until fully coated.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Fry shrimp in batches for 2–3 minutes or until golden brown. Transfer to paper towels to drain excess oil.
  6. In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, Sriracha, and honey to make the sauce.
  7. Toss fried shrimp in the sauce until evenly coated.
  8. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Adjust the Sriracha for more or less heat based on your spice preference.
  • For a healthier version, try air frying the shrimp instead of deep frying.
  • Serve over lettuce or in mini taco shells for a creative twist.
